The Krymskaya Hotel had been here once but it got burned down during the Civil War. This building was built in 1939 by architects F.Troupyanskiy, A.Popov and L.Dobrogovskaya. It was destroyed during the Second World War and rebuilt in 1952. Now it is an elite music boarding school for kids. P.Stolyarskiy founded it in 1933. He taught talented kids at home and was extremely successful. In 1937 all the awards of an international competition in Brussels were taken by his students. The legend has it that Stalin gave the teacher an order and a car and asked if he was happy with the gifts. The teacher said that he would rather give them back if a school would be built instead. And it was.
