The Roman Catholic church was built either in 1893, 1912 or (most likely) in 1913 by engineer L.Veslli. This was one of the very few Odessa churches that was working even in the USSR until it collapsed and later on. Initially it was meant to be a chapel for catholic seafarers who happened to be in Odessa with their ships. The entrance to the port was not far from this location then. But the Assumption Roman Catholic Church was closed down in 1935. As a result, Saint Peter’s Church became the only temple for all catholics in the south of Ukraine. Some icons and paintings from the closed church were taken to this one.
