The style of the building is vivid modern. It was built from 1901 through 1904 by architect L.Vlodek.
The text of the advertising of the beginning of the 20th century read:
Luxurious, comfortable, affordable the Bolshaya Moskovskaya Hotel in Odessa situated in Deribasovskaya Street across from the Town Garden enjoys the best location in the commercial part of the town close to all the theaters, boulevards, beaches, post and telegraph offices, municipal and government buildings. With the best Tatar restaurant. Nicely furnished rooms cost from 1 rouble. Baths, electrical lighting, steam heating, an elevator.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union the hotel became decrepit. For the last 5 years it has been being totally rebuilt. Unfortunately, the outside has changed a lot with an ugly attic on top and new horrid color of the walls. However, this hotel is fortunate compared to another one in this street named Spartak. A few years ago that building was relentlessly demolished and replaced with an amusement park.
